The Atomic Academy is the International Union of Revolutionary Republics’ leading scientific and educational institution. It brings together the Union’s foremost specialists and directs the development of the nuclear technologies supporting much of its industry and military power.
Origins and technological development
The Inter-Comintern founded the Academy to give the Union an atomic arsenal capable of confronting the FNC. The first warhead was produced in less than two years under secrecy that prevented Columbian services from anticipating the breakthrough.
Its greatest subsequent achievement was the Core, a miniature nuclear reactor capable of powering high-output machinery. The technology transformed the Union’s industry, construction, and weapons. The Academy also developed the Mega-Core used by the submarine Leviathan Jörmungandr.
Training and control of Cores
The Academy determines the conditions for access to and use of Cores. The radiation they emit requires infrastructure, technical preparation, and protective measures that restrict their safe use.
To reduce the damage caused by prolonged radiation exposure, the Academy developed the Tungsten Protocol, restricting Core use to certified operators: the Vol’framin. Their training enables them to withstand radiation and handle Cores as efficiently as possible.
The Academy is the world’s sole producer and supplier of Cores. Manufactured in secret northern factories, Cores are allocated according to Academy decisions: only the Academy has the authority to grant or revoke licenses for their use.
Intelligence and strategic security
The Academy cooperates with the VKKB and the Palace of Sparrows and conducts research in the Dead Zone. Kuznitsa depends on its Cores to operate and produce its machinery: the Forge’s independence from the Academy is nominal only.
The Academy and the IIAS maintain a neutral consortium combining global data, predictive models, and geopolitical analysis to calculate the Doomsday Clock. The Academy keeps a representative in Bern. With one minute remaining, it activates double agents worldwide through a psychotronic signal.
